Management Team
Ascendant Engineering Solutions was founded in 2004 by six partners, each bringing a different area of engineering expertise to the fold. They believed that integrating their diversity of knowledge could open up new avenues for collaboration and innovation. So they envisioned a new kind of engineering firm, one that embraced a culture of cross-disciplinary interaction and research. Drawing on 100 years of combined experience, the founding partners transformed that concept into a successful engineering firm, and Ascendant Engineering Solutions was born.

Jon Noeth, President
With over 20 years of experience in both the commercial and military systems arenas, Jon has led a variety of multi-discipline teams through all project phases. Most recently he transitioned a high-tech start-up team through the production phase at a large multi-national corporation. Jon started his career developing advanced night vision sensors and systems for Texas Instruments. He took that advanced technology through the production phase before moving on to a start-up called Applied Science Fiction based in Austin. Today he brings his strong program management and systems engineering background to Ascendant.
Jon holds a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Clarkson University.
Marc Digby, Principal
Marc has developed hardware and software solutions at all phases of product development, from first architectural concepts and rapid prototypes to production hardware and automated factory test equipment. After designing custom control electronics and software for the R&D imaging groups at Texas Instruments, Tektronix and Applied Science Fiction, Marc has spent the last twelve years leading engineering teams responsible for the development of new commercial and military systems.
Marc holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and is also an Instrument-Rated Commercial Pilot.
Bill Mapel, Principal
Bill has over 25 years of mechanical engineering experience focusing on productionization of equipment for commercial and military markets. As a leader in concurrent engineering, Bill has consistently executed successful programs within schedule and budget constraints throughout his career. Specializing in electro-optics, precision mechanisms and electronic packaging, he has the technical expertise to ensure that the product’s design meets required specifications.
Bill received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.
Greg Mooty, Principal
Greg has over 25 years experience leading teams and conducting engineering design and analysis along with testing for the commercial and military defense industries. In the first half of his career, he personally conducted teams responsible for the structural design, analysis, and testing of over 30 electro-optics, radar and missile programs at Texas Instruments, several of which resulted in multi hundred million-dollar production contracts. Later in his career in the commercial sector, Greg led cross-functional engineering design teams concentrating on systems solutions to complex problems involving multiple engineering disciplines.
Greg holds B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas and co-author of five issued patents.
Mike Thering, Principal
Mike has over 25 years of combined leadership and mechanical design experience in both research and product development. His technical specialization is in electro-optics, precision mechanisms, web/paper handling, and slot coating. Throughout Mike’s career, he has led both small and large cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions to challenging problems and has co-authored 5 issued patents.
Mike holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.
Mike Wiggers, Principal
Mike has over 15 years of electrical engineering and project management experience. Throughout his successful engineering career he has held positions with Applied Research Laboratories, Applied Science Fiction, and Eastman Kodak. He has both military and commercial design experience in many areas and has designed several multi-processor image and signal processing systems.
Mike holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
